5 Ways to Overcome Writer's Block

5 Ways to Overcome Writers Block

“Hayley, you should write a blog post about how to start a business, getting certified as a WBE, or your top 3 most inspiring women in business. These are some of the top ideas that came up in your category when doing a Google Keyword search." This direction was given to me by Jessica, my Social Media Marketing Strategist, exactly one week ago.

I’ve been trying to write a blog post about ‘3 Inspiring Women in Business’ since last Wednesday and I’m stuck. It’s not that I can’t find 3 women that inspire me… I’ve got al list of at least 10. But I just can’t get myself to write and finish blog post.

Writers block? Lack of inspiration? Not a priority? I could give you a ton of excuses and reasons why I’m stuck. Have you ever felt that way? Where you sit staring at a blank page trying to figure out what to write and where to begin?

I just texted Jessica to tell her I’m not writing the damn blog post. I said “I can’t just sit down and write about something I’m TOLD to write about. (There goes any opportunity for me to write for Inc. or Forbes). I need to be inspired to write about it.” Then I jokingly said, “maybe I should just write about that”.

And here I am.

Top 5 Ways To Overcome Writer's Block and create a blog post when you lack time, motivation, inspiration and a plentiful vocabulary.

#1 - Write about things that excite you.

#2 - Write when you FEEL like writing - when the time is right and you’re inspired, motivated and you’ve got energy. The time needs to be right to write.

#3 - Get support. Find someone that motivates you and cheers you on. Jessica responded to my text with - ‘I believes in you. You’ve got this!’ Thanks Jess.

#4 - Get some fresh air. My best ideas come to me when I’m out for a run or working out. Figure out your creative outlet and use it to clear your head and let the ideas flow in.

#5 - Find Inspiration - I listened to a really motivating business podcast on my way to the gym this morning which motivated and inspired me to come home and get cracking.

Try not to let the frustration of getting stuck overwhelm you. Grab your phone, type in a few ideas, a few words underneath each one and then see where that takes you.

Here you go… here’s my blog post about not being able to write a blog post. Hope you find it helpful. Stay tuned… I’m still working on the Top 3 Women that Inspire Me.

Reach out and tell me any tricks you use to overcome writers blog, I mean block!
